Error Estimate and the Geometric Corrector for the Upwind Finite Volume Method Applied to the Linear Advection Equation

چکیده
This paper deals with the upwind finite volume method applied to the linear advection equation on a bounded domain and with natural boundary conditions. We introduce what we call the geometric corrector which is a sequence associated with every finite volume mesh in Rnd and every non vanishing vector a of Rnd. First we show that if the continuous solution is regular enough and if the norm of this corrector is bounded by the mesh size then an order one error estimate for the finite volume scheme occurs. Then we prove that this norm is indeed bounded by the mesh size in various cases including the one where an arbitrary coarse conformal triangular mesh is uniformly refined in two dimension. Computing numerically exactly this corrector allows us to state that this result might be extended under conditions to more general cases like the one with independent refined meshes.

Error estimate for the upwind finite volume method for the nonlinear scalar conservation law
In this paper we study the error estimate of the upwind first order finite volume scheme applied to scalar conservation laws. As a first step we also consider the case of a linear equation with space variable coefficients in conservation form. We prove that indeed these schemes lead to a first order error estimate. This work follows our previous paper [2] where we have introduced, in the contex...
متن کاملL-error Estimate for a Finite Volume Approximation of Linear Advection
Abstract. We study the convergence of the upwind Finite Volume scheme applied to the linear advection equation with a Lipschitz divergence-free speed in Rd . We prove a h1/2−ε-error estimate in the L∞(Rd × [0, T ])-norm for Lipschitz initial data. The expected optimal result is a h1/2-error estimate. In a second part, we also prove a h1/2-error estimate in the L(0, T ; L2(Rd))-norm for initial ...

We examinepractical numerical methods to solve a class of initial-boundary value fractional partial dierentialequations with variable coecients on a nite domain. Stability, consistency, and (therefore) convergenceof t...
متن کاملSe p 20 05 Error estimate for the Finite Volume Scheme applied to the advection equation
We study the convergence of the Finite Volume Scheme for the advection equation with a divergence free C1 speed in a domain without boundary. We show that the rate of the L∞(0, T ;L1)-error estimate is h1/2 for BV data. This result was expected from numerical experiment and is optimal. The proof is based on Kuznetsov’s method. This method has been introduced for non-linear hyperbolic equations ...
متن کاملPreconditioned Generalized Minimal Residual Method for Solving Fractional Advection-Diffusion Equation
Introduction Fractional differential equations (FDEs) have attracted much attention and have been widely used in the fields of finance, physics, image processing, and biology, etc. It is not always possible to find an analytical solution for such equations. The approximate solution or numerical scheme may be a good approach, particularly, the schemes in numerical linear algebra for solving ...
